Throughout his letters to Cadle Watts spreads blame amongst his mistress, his wife, his family, a “dark force”, all leading to his hands being firmly pressed to his wife and children’s throats, when HE really wanted to let them live. Oh those dark forces, the devil! If only they hadn’t betrayed Watts that morning of 13 August 2018 when he killed his pregnant wife once, killed his children twice, then threw the soft, warm bodies of his little girls (one still in diapers) into 20’ tall vats of crude oil to ensure they would not wake up yet again, he casually explains.Grandmotherly author Cadle has produced a book which other more polished authors probably will never equal, through authorized, written exchanges with Watts, accompanied by accounts of face-to-face conversations in the prison visitor lounge. What went so utterly wrong with this man? Was it his family’s fault? They observed him at a young age monotonously mumbling bible verses behind a locked bathroom door, begging forgiveness from the lord. Watts asked that these letters be delivered to his parents, that they and his dead wife’s devastated family read them aloud over the graves, exchanging sweet anecdotes of Shan'ann and her kids.Watts confessed multiple times in court, in letters, and in recorded conversations with law enforcement, yet he now spreads the word through the inevitable lonely hearts prisoners fan club that he deserves a reduced sentence. He knows he would never do such a thing again, and not fair to judge the whole of his life by the details of one insignificant mass murder. One slip up, one choice of the wrong flavor of ice cream he implies. Think of the good he could do proselytizing outside of prison.It’s unlikely that any cogent explanations will come from Watts in the future.
